Spàirn. Resistance.

Brochan no Bàs Scottish Gaelic t-shirts
The decline of Gaelic is well documented and it doesn't take much research to discover the reasons. Despite the decline, a culture of resistance can be seen. From the mutinies among the Highland Regiments, as documented by John Prebble, to the Battle of the Braes and crofter land-raids, Gaelic-speaking communities have taken a stand. Given the might of the English language and the British Empire that helped spread it across the globe, perhaps it's a wonder that we're still here at all.

Against the grain.
Gaelic may have lost many battles on different fronts but despite adversity, it remains as a modern spoken community tongue. We need to be seen and we need to be heard though. Most ordinary people have little direct influence over legislation on road signs, for example, or the funding to BBC Alba. However, it is up to Gaelic-speakers and those who support the tongue to create the demand. Use it, use it, use it - any place, any time.

Na Gèill... do not yield while you still live.

Brochan no Bàs exists to contribute to this effort. Even the existence of the online shop is one small step towards securing a future for our language. If the humour or designs don't float your boat, that's ok but go and do your own. The more, the better. And get the kids involved. Gaelic-medium t-shirt design at home? Nach math sin! Fantastic.
